ELDON BIOLOGICALS A/S is a Danish manufacturer of dry format cards for blood grouping. Based on an invention by the Danish physician Knud Eldon, EldonCards have been manufactured and used for more than 20 years. Over time millions of cards have been utilised to establish individuals’ blood group within the AB0-Rhesus (D) systems and to ensure compatibility of patient/donor blood. Today EldonCards are based on the use of special formulations of selected monoclonal antibodies. The special qualities of the EldonCards are the following:
EldonCards are used by hospitals, blood banks, and blood centers, where it can be used for general blood typing and for Bed Side Testing. Given the flexibility, durability and accuracy of the EldonCard, it can be used outside hospitals and clinics. It can be used at the practitioner’s clinic, in humanitarian settings, on remote locations, on the battle field, in the class room, in the private home, or in any emergency situation calling for a speedy and reliable test.
According to FIGO guidelines, in countries with both rhesus positive and rhesus negative individuals the blood of all pregnant women must be grouped. The EldonCard makes it possible to test women in all settings, also in low resource countries, ensuring that they receive proper treatment. Further, the EldonCard enables the practising gynaecologist to group his patient’s blood immediately and the patient will not have to come back to learn about the result after the blood has been analysed at a laboratory. Thus the practitioner can start and/or inform the women immediately.
